Capitol Hill Consulting Group Senior Vice President Steve Southerland Delivers Keynote Address at Advocacy Leaders Network Roundtable
(Washington, DC) – March 4, 2016 – Capitol Hill Consulting Group Senior Vice President, former Congressman Steve Southerland (R-FL) delivered the Keynote Address at the Advocacy Leaders Network Roundtable on Friday, March 04, hosted by the Congressional Management Foundation. The event brought together experts from the political arena to discuss opportunities for advocacy during an election year.
Congressman Southerland engaged the crowd by drawing upon his experience as a business owner, Member of Congress and lobbyist to detail strategies behind successful engagements with Capitol Hill. Given his experience on all sides of the advocacy spectrum, the Congressman offered a unique perspective on effective techniques, stressing the importance of connecting the issue directly to the member’s district through public opinion polling and real data as it pertains to constituents.
Congressman Southerland served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2014, becoming the first Republican to be elected by the residents of Florida’s second congressional district in 140 years. He was chosen by the class of 2010 to be their representative at the Republican Leadership Table for the 113th Congress, where he used the foundation of relationships he built to help push through the reauthorization of both the Transportation and Farm bills in a divided Congress.
