HealthStar CEO Recognized for Reducing Fraud and Waste in Health Care
HealthStar CEO Dr. Ed Breazeale was recently recognized for his work in combating waste and fraud in home health care services. A USA Today article showcased Dr. Breazeale’s Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) technology, which he developed to crack down on fraudulent Medicaid reimbursement claims. The technology uses GPS to track home visits and ensure that patients are receiving proper health care services. The Department of Health and Human Services estimated that almost $3.6 billion in personal care services were improperly billed in 2015, up from $2 billion in 2014. Under the 21st Century Cures Act, EVV technology will be required for all Medicaid-provided personal care services and home health services by January 1, 2019.
