Steve Southerland, II, is a Partner and Senior Vice President of Capitol Hill Consulting Group. Steve joined the firm in March of 2015 and has built a diverse client list in the areas of transportation, maritime, defense, healthcare, energy, tax, trade, real estate, and public municipalities. During his time with CHCG he has assisted clients meet their governmental affairs goals, whether calling on Members of Congress, Administration officials, or committee staff. Steve remains very close to his former colleagues still serving in the United States Senate, House of Representatives, and Administration positions.
Steve is a lifelong resident of Panama City, Florida, where he still calls home. He earned a degree in business management from Alabama’s Troy State University and an additional degree in mortuary science from Jefferson State Junior College. After college in 1987, he joined his family’s three generation business, Southerland Family Funeral Homes, where he still serves as an officer and stockholder.
Steve was first elected to Congress in 2010 to represent Florida’s Second Congressional District and was its first elected Republican since Reconstruction. While in office from 2010-2014, he served on the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Transportation and Infrastructure committees. Steve was chosen by the class of 2010 to be its representative at the Republican Leadership Table for the 113th Congress and he also served as a Republican conferee for reauthorization of both the Transportation and Farm bills. Steve and his wife, Susan, are the proud parents of four daughters, Samantha, Stephanie, Allison, and Abby.
